The load rating is based on evenly distributed loads across the full shelf depth. Point loads — such as heavy equipment on one section of a shelf — should be discussed with our team to confirm appropriate shelf thickness and support specification.

What is the difference between chrome wire and solid stainless steel shelving?

Chrome wire shelving uses a welded grid of chrome-plated steel wire, allowing air circulation around stored items (beneficial in cold rooms and dry stores where air movement aids temperature equalisation and humidity control) and making spills drop through rather than pool on the shelf surface. Solid stainless steel shelving provides a continuous surface appropriate for storing small items, loose goods and equipment that would fall through wire openings, and is the hygienic choice for kitchen areas where items are accessed frequently and the surface is regularly cleaned.

Yes. Kitco's chrome wire and solid stainless steel shelving systems are suitable for walk-in cold room and walk-in freezer installation, with chrome wire shelves being the most common specification as they allow cold air to circulate freely around stored product. Cold room shelving is mounted on post systems that stand on the insulated floor without penetrating the floor panel, preserving the cold room envelope integrity. Anti-tip wall brackets can be fitted to stabilise shelf posts against the cold room wall panel for added security at full load.

What depth and width options are available for commercial kitchen shelving?

Kitco supplies commercial shelving in standard depths of 300 mm, 450 mm and 600 mm and adjustable bay widths from 600 mm to 1800 mm. Intermediate depths and widths are available as custom fabrications from our workshop. Shelf heights within each bay are adjustable in 50 mm increments to accommodate products of different heights. Floor-standing post systems and wall-bracket mounting systems are both available — post systems for freestanding locations and wall brackets for fixed wall-mounted shelving where floor space must remain clear.
